Easy and Inexpensive Kitchen Backsplashes

Tablecloth backsplash susan teare I'm lucky my backsplashes are a lovely glass mosaic tile.  However, if you have a plain backsplash and want some pizzazz, but your budget is tight check these out. Not only are they attractive, but they're easy, inexpensive and simple to change. Great for those on a budget or renting.  See more like the one above here.

Top Colors for 2012

Middletown brown alexa hampton I usually like to do these posts BEFORE the new year, not in the middle of the year, but color trends don't change that drastically.

Below are several articles about various popular colors right now.

I especially like the dark chocolate color shown above. It has such flexibility. Warm in a family room or office. Elegant for a dining room. Would also look great in a bathroom - accent with white fixtures and trim.

You're sure to find your perfect color in one of these posts:

Lots of picks and helpful advice - scroll down. Click the links to see the colors. They have a TON of ideas for a variety of colors.

House Beautiful (skip the ad and then go through the slideshow). As you'll see grays are very popular right now - light and dark!

Elle Decor - probably the best of all. So many ideas! Be sure to click the links.

Decorating with Wine Corks

Cork bottles The popularity of wine goes into home decor. While wall hangings and art have included wine bottles from some time, now the actual corks are getting into the decorating act.

Drink up and save your corks. Use them to make wreathes or just put them into a vase or large snifter.

Cork candles You can also buy candles that look like corks. Recycle your favorite wine bottles for a trendy, casual look that's not just for Italian restaurants.

Wine ... so versatile!

Custom area rug at a low, low price

Regular_binding2 Area rugs can be pricey. Especially for large or odd-sized ones. Getting a carpet bound is expensive.

But now you can get custom, bound carpets rugs at a fraction of the price.

First, get a carpet remnant at a local carpet store or a dealer that resells remnants. (Search online for retailers in your area.)  Find what you want. Bring it home. Cut it to size using a carpet knife for a clean edge.

Then use Instabind, a pair of scissors, and a hot glue gun to finish it.

See Instabind.com here and watch their videos. Easy, inexpensive, beautiful as seen in photo above.
