Your house is giving you the blahs but your check book says it needs a vacation. What do you do?
Here are some quick and easy updates that can give you a new look for little - or no - dollars.
1) Move a piece a furniture. Put the end table in the hallway. Move a nightstand into the living room. That sofa table by the front window - move it to your bedroom.
2) Slipcover. You'll be amazed at the choices, styles, and sizes of slipcovers these days. Cover a couch or redo your dining room by slipcovering the chairs.
3) Toss some pillows. Add a throw. On that old, boring couch. Instant pizzazz.
4) Rearrange the furniture. A new direction or layout can really make a difference.
5) Scatter a few rugs. Nothing expensive, just some new color.
6) Buy a new tablecloth or placemats for the kitchen table. Presto nouveau.
7) Paint. One wall. The whole room. Or add a faux finish to an existing base. Add glazed stripes. Paint a pattern or stencil. Maximum impact, minimal cost.
8) Replace hardware on cabinets or furniture. You'd be surprised how new knobs can revitalize furniture or cabinets.
9) Turn drapery panels into swags. If you're a bit handy with needle and thread, just change long panels into swags. Not hard. No need to coordinate new colors, but immediate new look.
You'd be surprised how your things can look so much different if you just mix them up a bit!
