When our old dog, Barney, passed on a month ago, we decided to get two dogs after spring break. So a few days after returning from Florida, we adopted these two adorable puppies. Meet Bella and Chief. Bella is the sweet little girl on the left. She is 12 weeks old and part beagle and Italian Hound (which I've learned is very rare outside of Italy. How her parent ended up in Chicago is still a mystery to me). She is all puppy and teeth right now, but very sweet, and loves to cuddle. Chief is the older puppy boy on the right. He's 5-1/2 months and a beagle/lab mix. He is a laid-back fella who loves to play and kiss. They love each other, are very tolerant and playful with the kids, and pretty good about obeying "mom" and "dad". As I started researching places to get dogs, I realized that there are so many dogs looking for a good home that we decided to go the rescue route and save at least two. In fact, Chief came from a high-kill shelter in southern Indiana into his rescue program. Another nice thing about rescues is that the dogs are fostered in homes rather than cages so they begin to socialize with dogs and humans and start their training. Chief is house-broken; Bella is about 50/50. Both are crate trained. They've been lots of work but plenty of fun.
Bella was rescued by Hound Rescue and Sanctuary. Chief was rescued by Rover Rescue.
