The impact that trim can have on a home can easily be overlooked. In today's upper-end new construction homes, trim has been upgraded ... to look like trim of the past. Rarely now do you see plain flat or ridged trim. Two and a half inch trim with just a rounded corner is referred to as ranch style. This and it's popular cousin of the same dimension but with some routing were common place in the 60s and 70s, often referred to as builder's trim. One of the aspects that gave older homes such character and charm is the trim. No plain trim in those homes. So if you want to upgrade a room, then consider upgrading your trim.
