Plants are great decorating tools. They're generally inexpensive. Usually require minimal care (I have one that's still living that I don't think I've watered for 10 years - amazing!) And instantly add color and variety to any room. And to top it all off, they also purify the air naturally. Cut flowers work well too, and with the advent of grocery store flower shops, are reasonably priced too. I also read that with good light and proper watering, you can even use an outdoor plant inside.
Now that I trust my children not to eat potted plants, I'm thinking about getting some around the house. (Except for said miracle plant, I managed to kill off all my others when my children came along.) Of course, I may need to wait for the puppies to get a bit older - the temptation to eat them or dig in them may be too great. Our old dog routinely hid dog biscuits in our potted palm. Speaking of dogs and children, if you have either, be sure to pick non-toxic varieties.
Since I am obviously no plant expert, and childbirth apparently ruined any green thumb abilities I had, read this article to learn more about how to decorate with plants. This page also has links to other plant related topics. If that fails, silk is always an alternative. [smile]
