As you've heard me say before, details make a decor. Simple is often better. And emptying the bank account is not only unwise; its unnecessary. Here are a few easy decorating accents you can create to add splashes of color to a room and not even break a twenty dollar bill.
You'll notice I like to use odd numbers in arrangements and accents with three being my favorite number. These are inexpensive vases ($1.29 each) and tulips from my yard. Even if I bought the flowers, the total cost would be less than $7.00. Silk flowers could also be used for splash of color on a table or window sill.
This is a small fish bowl. $.87. Three flowers cut on very short stems make a nice mini flower arrangement. I also saw this very style of arrangement with silk flowers for $14.99 at a home store. My cost: $3.37. It works great on a bath countertop.
Again I used the small fish bowls, filled with bright colored aquarium stones. You could also use colored sand or marbles. Add a tea light candle for one or a collection of custom lights. Use multiple colors. Line them up on a mantle or buffet. Total cost for the set of three: $14.09. (On a related note, this shade of blue is very popular in candles, vases, and glassware right now.) You can also use tea lights in miniature wine glasses - with or without the stones - for an elegantly simple look.
A little color can go a long way. Look at the pictures in magazines. All include small accents such as these to enhance tables, counters, dressers, windows, and more.
